Yajaira Urzua-Reyes (b. 1994, Aguascalientes, Mexico) is a visual artist based in Sarasota, Florida. Urzua-Reyes holds a BA from New College of Florida with a concentration in Studio Art (2021). Her work primarily consists of oil paintings and drawings. Urzua-Reyes is interested in the way art is used to bring attention to topics around the world. During her time at New College of Florida she completed her series, Lo Que Quedó de Ti (What was Left of You), a group of six oil paintings which bring attention to the violence at the US-Mexico border. While she continues to explore this topic, Urzua-Reyes also creates large paintings of foliage to highlight the complex beauty found in nature.
In 2019 she was a recipient of the Women Contemporary Artists Scholarship and attended The New York Academy of Art Summer Residency. Since then her work has been exhibited in Sarasota and Manatee counties. Later this year her work will be exhibited at the Tampa Museum as part of Skyway: A Contemporary Collaboration.
