Ro Daar

Ro constructs elaborate works made from cut and shaped wood.  They are then painted to enhance the weight, texture, and movement of each shape.  The negative space created by these shapes invites more activity, letting light enter to give form to the shadows.  Her sculptures have a quiet power.  The softness of the wood, smooth edges and minimal color fuse into a purity of form and motion.

“Ms. Daar’s constructions deal with rhythms...and effectively occupy the middle ground between the tangible and the abstract ... as if to challenge the imagination.” —Helen A. Harrison, The New York Times

Ro grew up in New York City and graduated with a BFA from Queens College.  Her sculptures have been featured in group and solo shows at museums and galleries in the New York tri-state area, including the Nassau County Museum of Art, the Heckscher Museum of Art, and the Vanderbilt Museum.  In addition, her work is in private and corporate collections, including McGraw-Hill Companies and Wyeth Pharmaceuticals.

Ro recently moved her life and her studio to Sarasota, FL. and looks forward to discovering new sources of inspiration and creativity.
